7 Content Writer Tips That Will Make You Stronger

You don’t have to be the worlds best content writer in order to create effective content. You simply need to use the tools around you to create content that will be effective for marketing. As time passes, your writing ability will become better with the more exposure you have to it. It really does get easier with time!

Before we jump into the tips that will make you a stronger content writer, let’s break down exactly what content writing is first. Content writing is a type of work that first came to light in the early 1990s, due to an increased rise in online users. Content writing is the method of planning, writing and editing any type of web content and is typically used for digital marketing purposes.

I am no expert on the matter, but here are some of the tips I can give you that have helped me along the way.

Know what audience you are targeting

The biggest mistake people often make is creating content that targets everyone. Your content won’t necessarily interest everyone. Rather create content that is targeted at your specific audience. So, tip #1 is to find your target audience. Create content that stops them in their tracks and interests them. Knowing who your audience is and understanding them will help you to focus on your voice, your brand and the message you want to give them.

Stay organized

Being organized helps to create an organized mind and organized content. Using a content calendar to organize the content you will be creating is a massive help. This tool will really help you to stay on track and ensure that your content is diversified. Ensure that you have a clear path in order to write as efficiently as possible.

Get your read on

WordFlo would not have become something if it weren’t for me being an avid reader. Reading has helped me find my own style of writing and helped me create my voice. Reading helped to broaden my vocabulary, my imagination and my creativity as a content writer. The best part about reading is all the new things your brain gets to experience and learn. The more I read and research the better I write and the more creative I become. The new things you discover will resonate with you and can be transferred into your writing. While I’m reading, I also look out for words that I may not know and I find the definition. This way, you aren’t just reading past words because you don’t understand them, you force yourself to learn new ones.

Find your content writer style

Everyone’s writing style is different from one another. There may be similarities, but no one can write exactly the same way you do. Finding your own style as a content writer will make your writing so much easier and more consistent. Far too often people try to mimic other content writers and it comes through in their writing. Rather create your own content based on your own writing style. Your audience will appreciate your content so much more when they can see your style shine through.

Time is of the essence

Timing is crucial and writers block is a real thing!
There comes a time where all of us experience writers block. What works for me may not work for you, so the only advice I can give you is to step away and do something that you know will help to clear your mind. Once you are back and ready for action, set time limits for yourself in order to really force yourself to focus. Even if you set out 15-minute focus intervals with a 5-minute break in between, just find something that works for you.

Don’t get distracted by interruptions

Things always seem to pop up while you’re writing. Don’t let things distract you from your process. Carve out uninterrupted time to really focus 100% on the task at hand.

Go wild using content writer tools

Whether you are just starting out as a content writer or you are a pro, tools are the bomb! Even more so when they are free tools. There are so many helpful tools out there that were made to help make your life easier. So don’t look a gift horse in the mouth, take all the help you can get.

Here are some of my favourite tools.

Grammarly – This is there to help you eliminate grammatical errors. They offer a free version which is super helpful when you are just starting out.

Plagiarism Detector – This is a super useful tool to ensure that you don’t have any plagiarism in your content. They also offer a free version.

HubSpot’s Blog Topic Generator – There may come a time when you hit a creative wall and you can think of any topics to write about. This is where HubSpot’s Blog Topic Generator comes in.

Dropbox – Free online file storage that you can access from any device!

Content writing is a lot of fun and gets easier with time. If you really love doing it, it hardly feels like work. Make it your own and let your creativity and individuality come out.
